Roleplaying Guide Empty Roleplaying Guide

Alright.. since there are a few newer role players out there, here's a brief overview of the dos and donts of role plays.

1. When someone joins your role play- acknowledge them. If someone took the time to join in your board, it is always a good idea to immediately acknowledge them. Even if your character has no knowledge of them being near, a simple "____had yet to realize that ____was near" works perfectly. It keeps the other person interested in the role play, and moves things along.

2. Use good grammer When in a role play, a person generally reads over a post more than once. It is a good idea to check for any minor errors before submitting a post for readability sake, and for issues regarding understanding- a role play with bad spelling generally gets more confusing much quicker.

3. Use as much description as possible, without being confusing Since role plays rely completely on the written word, the tone you use and the diction conveyed will create a mood for your role play. Description, also, allows the reader a better understanding of what you are saying, and lessens the chance for confusion. For example:

"Sally kicked the dog"
Is much too vague. Why did she kick the dog? Where is she? Is she angry? Or did the dog attack her?
This is a better choice:

"In a fit of jealous anger, Sally kicked Jim's dog out of spiteful revenge."

That gives us a much better understanding of why Sally is kicking people's dogs around.

4. Write comments in within "Hey" and thoughts to self with 'Hmm...' usually, it's best to use a uniform system of communication, so that everyone is on the same page in what is going on.
